2011 ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING CONSTITUTIONAL CHANGES APPROVED BY
DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE
- The various changes adopted by the station AGM in September, 2011, the
first updates since 2005, have been formally sanctioned, the the updated
Constitution made
effective from 30 January, 2012. The changes are predominantly
housekeeping updates and those that bring us into line with updated WA
Government Associations Incorporation Act requirements. There is
no impact on member rights caused by the changes, and volunteers are now
formally identified in the Constitution, a very important aspect as the
station is operated only by volunteers, over 90 of them!
20 November, 2011 - A GOOD IDEA FOR CHRISTMAS. A DIGITAL BAND RADIO! - Are you having trouble with reception of our program in Perth on the FM band? Some listeners are, in outer Perth metro spots, because of topography, and our 8Kw transmission being from the lower height (above sea level) of Wireless Hill, compared with all the other full metro stations transmitting from the top of the Darling Range. Then why not suggest quietly to your family circle that a DAB+/FM radio would be a "great" gift for Christmas. Problem solved - our digital band broadcast IS transmitted from the Darling Range and at considerably more power, being 40Kw, thus can be heard well out of Perth in any direction. If you do receive your wish, a digital radio, why not tell us you got the idea from here by calling the station after Christmas on 9364 9888, and leaving a message for Russell Coghlan.
13 August, 2011 - A MODERN WAY TO LISTEN TO US ON YOUR MOBILE "SMARTPHONE" - Use TuneIn Radio at www.tunein.com - click here at www.tunein.com/mobile/ to select and download a free "app" (application) to install on your SmartPhone mobile. You can then use the application to find us (look under the "Oldies" folder/icon at TuneIn.com, and once you have us playing on your mobile phone, select to have us as a "Preset". Just giving you more ways to listen to Perth's Radio for Seniors and hear music of "The Golden Years of Radio" (40 years ago and beyond), AND you will hear us on your SmartPhone mobile wherever in the world you have mobile coverage, not just in the Perth metropolitan area as you would using the FM Radio option on your mobile.
Go to our "WHERE TO LISTEN" page to see all the options we have for listening to Capital 101.7FM.
4 May, 2011 - CAPITAL COMMUNITY RADIO NOW BROADCASTING ON DIGITAL RADIO BAND - yes, during the mid-morning we commenced broadcasting on DAB+ Digital Radio, simulcasting our 101.7FM program. If you have a digital radio (for the DAB+ model which Australia has adopted - the latest system available), you can find us by tuning across the band until you see "Capital" displayed. Select "Capital" to listen to and the display will change to "Capital Digital" (on radios with a two-line text display it will usually display "Capital Digital playing". There you have it. Check your radio operating instructions to see how to save us as a preset (favourite). If you listen to both our 101.7FM and DAB+ Digital broadcasts, you will find the digital broadcast about 10 seconds behind the FM broadcast, that is normal with digital broadcasting, and similar to live streaming of our program on the Internet (the Internet being another form of "digital" processing).
Our DAB+ Digital broadcast , like the 101.7FM broadcast, covers the entire Perth metropolitan area, however as all digital transmissions are done from a tower in the Kalamunda area, and we are also sharing with the commercial stations, our transmission is at the same power as the commercial stations. Thus those listeners in outer metro pockets where our 101.7FM signal is not as good as it could be (because we are transmitting 101.7FM from Wireless Hill, not Kalamunda), will receive a strong digital signal on a DAB+ Digital radio. Most digital radios cover both the DAB+ Digital and FM bands
2 April, 2011 - DIGITAL RADIO FOR COMMUNITY RADIO STATIONS CLOSE TO HAPPENING ACROSS AUSTRALIA - click on this link: "Community Digital Radio" to read about the launch in each of Australia's five capital cities (Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, Sydney). Each city is launching once ALL metro-wide coverage community stations in that city are connected to the transmission multiplexor (MUX), in Perth's case the MUX is at the channel 10 TV tower in the Kalamunda area. When all Perth stations are connected, then the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia (CBAA) will outline the Perth digital radio launch details on the "Community Digital Radio" web page. Capital Community Radio is looking forward to the launch, and will be identified when tuning on digital radios (looking for us) as "Capital". Once you have tuned in to us, our identification on your digital radio display will be "Capital Digital". Capital Community Radio will simulcast (use the same program) on 101.7FM and on DAB+ Digital radio.
24 February, 2011 - DAB+ DIGITAL RADIO DELAY EXPLAINED - The arrival of this new technology in broadcasting for Capital Community Radio is being held up by a delay in Telstra provision of fibre optic cable to our studio premises at Wireless Hill Park. We are pursuing this in an attempt to minimise the delay, however it is out of our control. Keep checking back here for any updates.
8 February, 2011 - SOUND QUALITY SENT TO AIR NOW IMPROVED - The sound of our FM Stereo Radio broadcast (and soon to also be DAB+ Digital Radio) improved its quality from midday Monday, 7 February, when the new digital processing equipment came into use. Very alert listeners have been ringing in since to compliment the new quality of our programme. We are now using our newly built digital audio studios, state of the art and using audio over IP (Internet Protocol) for networking.
17 January, 2011 - POWER INCREASE FOR CAPITAL 101.7FM, NOW TRANSMITTING AT 8 KILOWATTS - The radiated power of Capital 101.7FM from our Wireless Hill mast antenna is now 8 Kilowatts (Kw), 16 times greater than when we were on 90.5FM, giving even better coverage of the Perth metropolitan area., 2011
